On The Same Page

Dara and I have a routine that we go through every time we have to make a big decision. We pray together, then pray separately, then pray together again. If we both feel peace, we move forward. If one or both of us feel hesitance, we don’t move at all.

We have learned this lesson the hard way over our 7 years of marriage. There are things that we have had to pay a big price for (financially and emotionally) that we could have avoided if we would have just been more patient.

We felt this the past month as we felt like we were supposed to move to Uptown Charlotte. We never found anything – until today – that felt peaceful to both of us. We found a really cute townhouse in the exact neighborhood that we wanted to live in from day one of looking in Uptown. It is literally within walking distance of one of the best elementary schools in all of Charlotte (Max starts kindergarten at the end of August). We are moving forward with the application process today. Don’t know how it all pans out yet, but I do know that Dara and I are on the same page and feel peaceful moving forward.

No better way to make a decision as a couple than to be led by the Spirit, not the flesh (Galatians 5).

Strong and Courageous

I am reading the story of the life and leadership of Joshua (found, coincidentally, in the book of Joshua in the Bible). His story is so compelling. He was the right hand man to one of the greatest historical figures in the Bible, Moses (of 10 commandment fame). God used Moses in an incredible way to deliver the people of Israel out of captivity in Egypt all the way to the brink of claiming their own land. Moses died before seeing this become a reality and Joshua was left to lead the people of Israel into this promised land.

I love how God speaks to Joshua as he calls him from a position of being a right hand man to a position of leadership. He tells him three times in Joshua 1 to be “strong and courageous.”

I was pondering this thought today and realized something so amazing. Joshua could be strong and courageous in the face of a very difficult task because he had all strength and courage living inside of him through God.

I can wilt under pressure. I can melt in the face of challenges. I can quiver at the sight of insurmountable odds. But because of a decision I made as a five year old at a little church in Canton, Michigan, I have all strength living inside of me. When I committed my heart to Christ as a child, I received all strength and courage.

Be encouraged today. Through Christ, we have all strength and courage to stand in the face of pressure, chllenges and insurmountable odds. If you have never given you heart to Christ, email me and we can chat about this life giving, forgiving, strength giving and courage giving relationship that I found as a five year old.

If you have accepted Christ as Savior, remember that you can be strong and courageous today because you have all strength and courage living in you through Christ.

Center City Info Cards

A big thanks to Will Morgan for helping out with the design on these info cards for Center City Church. I needed something quickly to have on hand for fundraising purposes and Will hit a home run for me. We needed something simple and effective. Will came up with this design to put on business cards that we will have on hand by the end of the week. This will hold us over until we nail down our logo and move forward with some branding and graphics.

Anything & Everything

Let me make an admission: I really don’t like fundraising.

However, I am willing to do anything and everything within my power to go after the vision that God has put in our hearts to bring Center City Church to Uptown Charlotte. We have been doing it for a year and a half now and it gets really old. My pride is totally destroyed after asking everyone I know and even some that I don’t for money. Multiple times. That’s all a part of this process and I needed this season to get over myself and my pride.

Even though I don’t like it, I know the only way to get this vision off the ground and keep our family going is to continue to hit the fundraising trail every single week. This season will pass eventually and Dara and I will celebrate the day that Center City gets to the point that we can be paid through our ministry (or however God chooses to provide).

For today, however, I’m working on an application that a friend of mine gave me that sits on a charitable trust that funds church plants. Praying for wisdom as I try to find the words to articulate the vision that God has put in our hearts for Center City.

Anything and everything. Totally worth it.
