Start Something

I absolutely love this quote that Pastor Steven Furtick (Elevation Church) just posted to his Twitter account. Not sure who the quote is from, but it goes like this:

“Statistics show that if they don’t start, they won’t finish.”

I love this idea. God has wired me to create. I want to try new things and see new ideas constantly pushing us to innovate and explore. One of the scariest and most exhilarating things in life is to try to do something that’s never been done before. It’s summed up in one of my personal favorite quotes of all time by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

What dream do you have in your heart? You’ll never see it accomplished if you don’t take a step of faith and start pursuing that dream. Pray. Seek the wisdom of trusted voices in your life. Pray more. If all goes well…go for it. Start something!

Chess Strategy + Home Searching

I am very, very bad at chess.

If it weren’t for my good friend, Vinnie Zarletti, I wouldn’t have a clue what I’m doing. But Vinnie’s elementary chess lessons actually proved to be quite valuable as we search for a home for our family in Uptown Charlotte.

Vinnie is my only friend that is a self admitted chess fanatic. He taught me a few moves that I have since forgotten, but I remembered this basic concept: whoever controls the center of the board has the upper hand. The person that controls the center of the board can defend and attack effectively.

As we were praying about moving to Uptown Charlotte, I could feel God’s leading and direction to move to the “center of the board”. If we want to be able to be in a position of understanding the Uptown community, we need to live, work and breathe in that neighborhood. If we want to strategically live our lives and be in the right place at the right time, we have to make a move to get to the center of the community we are serving.

We will hit the road again tomorrow in hopes of finding a place to live. He knows where it’s at, now we just have to wait til he shows us.

We’re taking another step of faith to move to the center of the board.

(Thanks, Vinnie)

Thanking God In Advance

I want to praise God publicly today for the miracle he is about to do in the days to come. We are 4 days away from our August paycheck coming due and still $2,000 away from meeting our basic fundraising budget for the month. I have over a year of proof to see that God never forgets, never fails and always provides. Absolutely.

Great Day

We had a great service yesterday at Hope. Mike gave me the honor of preaching at our last service and the people were so incredibly supportive. I have been so blessed to be a part of such an amazing team of leaders and a great church family at Hope. We finished off the day with a great cookout and pool party. Fun and memorable day!

Bittersweet Weekend

Tomorrow is my last Sunday at Hope Church. This is a really bittersweet weekend for me. On one hand, I am incredibly excited to be realizing a dream that Dara and I have shared for over 5 years by planting Center City Church in Uptown Charlotte. On the other hand, I have built some incredible relationships and joined arms with great men and women of God to launch Hope Church.

I am spending the day at Caribou Coffee going over my message. Trying to find the words to say to a group of people that have meant so much to me is quite a task. The relationships that we have built with Pastor Mike, the leadership of Hope Church and the friends we have made along the way will continue, albeit in a different capacity.

I am grateful for the time that I have had at Hope Church and pray that our investment there has brought life along the way and continues to produce life far after we are gone. I’m also grateful for the vision that God has put in my heart for the future of Center City and our new journey in Uptown.

Such a bittersweet weekend.
