ONE
Thinking about the ONE campaign. Feels like something may be stirring in my spirit about this. I'm just writing it down so I can look back one day and have a reference point.I've had this on my heart for a long time, yet never taken appropriate steps to action. What's my role? My responsibility?
A Wii Evening
I just got beat by my 4 year old son in Wii bowling. It's not like I wasn't trying, either. He shot a 214. A 214!!! How am I supposed to hang with that?We had so much fun tonight. Dara was preparing to speak at a service for 300 people (GO DARA!) tomorrow, so I hung with the kids all night. I got whooped by Max in bowling, played hide and seek with all three of them, tickled and tackled all night long and then introduced Max to one scene from the greatest movie of all time - TOP GUN. What a night.I kept on thinking to myself "take mental pictures." Max and Mary are getting so big. Talking up...
Video Podcast
We have just launched our new Hope Church Video Podcast. Click here to download my sermon on Life Giving Relationships. You can also subscribe to our podcast on iTunes to automatically get the Hope Church Video Podcast every week.I think it's so important to have this medium of communication. So many people want to "check out" a church before actually going TO the church. Video podcasting is a way that they can literally SEE what we're doing. It's an easy introduction to who we are at Hope.God bless technology.
Welcome Back!
I would like to officially welcome the NFL back into our world! Last night was so exciting as Dara, the kids and I counted down to the kickoff of the Giants/Redskins game. Not so much that we're Giants or Redskins game, but we are HUGE NFL FANS! So excited to see football back EVERY SUNDAY and MONDAY for the next several months.Dara also gets extra "cool wife" points because she let me get DirecTV with the NFL Pass so we could watch 14 GAMES A WEEK! That means I get my Bucs all year long 🙂 Thank God for a cool wife. Thank God for the NFL. Go Bucs.
Wind Wavers
We have just finished the design on our Wind Waver banners. We will be placing four of these outside of our theater to draw attention to where we are meeting at Hope. They will be over 11 feet tall and flap around in the wind to catch the eye. There is so much "noise" all around us. Everywhere we drive, advertisers are screaming for our attention. We had to do something to "rise above the noise" so people don't miss us. These Wind Wavers are a great way to do that.Another huge thanks to Luke Bolin and the guys over at Studione26 for all the graphical genius that they bring to the table....
Weekend Thoughts
I remember when my youngest son, Jack, was only 6 weeks old. The memory is still fresh in my mind because I had to leave him for a two week road trip with our Master's Commission group. The ministry trip was the highlight of the year for our team and no one else could drive the bus. I remember holding him and looking into his eyes. I couldn't believe I was about to be away from my little boy for so long so early in his life. It was so incredibly hard to leave.I felt similar emotions this weekend. Our church plant has been meeting for 5 weeks at the movie theater. We're still so early in the...
Jerred & Randi – So Proud
I have the honor this weekend of performing the wedding ceremony for Jerred Peacock and Randi Sturts. I can't help but get a bit emotional when I think about what's coming tomorrow.I met Jerred when I first started at Calvary in 2001. He was a 15 year old high school sophomore with a huge heart for his campus. We instantly connected and began to form a friendship that has lasted throughout high school and on through his college years. Jerred came on staff with me at Calvary Orlando Master's Commission in 2006 and still serves on staff at Calvary. He is one of the closest guys in my life.I'm...
The Branch Family Church
I have been so blown away by the staff over at The Branch Family Church since my arrival in Charlotte. My first encounter with them was when they offered to let us use their school building to do our initial gatherings for Hope Church before we moved into the theater. My second encounter was when I visited their church a couple of months ago and Pastor Derek pointed me out during service and said, "We've got a very special guest today, David and Dara Docusen from Hope Church. They are a part of a great team of pastors and I'd recommend them highly to anyone looking for a great new church."...
Roadside Banners
I have been working with Luke Bolin (www.studione26.com) all day on a design for our roadside banners that we're using for the entrance of our theater. These things are great ways to grab attention. 12 feet tall and they rise above the "noise" (all the other ads surrounding the theater) and give a clear entrance point to Hope every weekend. I'll post the final product in a bit.
Open Sourcing
I am such a huge fan of what Craig Groeschel is doing at LifeChurch.tv!Craig is an innovator, author and front line leader in the Kingdom. I love the bold move he made to completely open source all of the things that they do at LifeChurch.tv. The basic idea is that God has blessed them with a great team of creative minds and they have created a whole section of their website to give away all of their ideas - graphics, videos, sermons, etc. This idea is phenomenal for the local church. So many pastors have gone this same route and it's a direction we plan to go with Hope as we continue to...
