It was bound to happen eventually.
I got schooled today in the ways of NASCAR by my good friend, Justin Leedy. He took me all around town today visiting a ton of race shops of all the top drivers in NASCAR.
A bit of a confession: I think I’m really starting to dig racing.
We stopped by Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s race shop today. We saw the guys working on the cars in the garage and all the crazy stuff they sell with Junior’s face on it. Jackets to lunchboxes to keychains. All things Dale Jr. I even found out today that Junior owns two buffalo that live on his farm. Not kidding.
Here’s a pic of me and Dale Jr. and another pic of me and his boxer, Killer. I’m so NASCAR.

As if we don’t have enough kids that cry throughout the day in the Docusen home…
Dara and I were sitting in our living room tonight, the three older kids already down for bed and feeding Baby Ben his bottle before bed. All of a sudden we hear a little baby crying. We both look at Ben and he’s pretty content scarfing down his Similac Advanced formula. We then look over at our baby monitor and realize that our monitor is picking up some other crying baby in our neighborhood. Not cool.
I often call the screaming, crying, laughing, screaming and crying of my children the soundtrack of my life. It’s beautiful and crazy and chaotic and priceless. However, I should qualify that statement: MY children’s screaming, crying, laughing, screaming and crying is beautiful to me. I could do without the neighborhood addition to the madness 🙂

I never knew how good God was at creative financing.
We have now gone 10 months with no guaranteed paycheck and we are still alive and kicking! This past month was the first time that we have not raised enough money to cover our entire paycheck. We ended up around $500 short of our full pay for April.
Dara and I decided to just tighten things up and simply make it work. I went to go pay my mortgage payment this week and found a great surprise. Our payment for this month was put off for the month because we had just redone our loan. One more month. One more story of God’s amazing provision!
God is so creative. I would have never thought of that one 🙂

I have found recently a hunger for understanding the Bible like I have never known before. I figured I would shoot a blog post out there to give a glimpse on how I do my devotions. This can be one of the most frustrating parts of our relationship with God – most of us don’t know how to spend time with Him on our own. What I’m about to share is constantly evolving and I have not cornered the market on time spent with God.
– I pick a book of the Bible that I want to study. This is literally as simple as staring at the table of contents and praying, “what should I read next?”
– Once I have picked a book to study, I start at chapter one and read in order. I read very slowly and keep a pen handy. You will notice that most Bibles split each chapter into sub-categories. I read from one sub-category to the next and underline things that really stick out to me.
– Once I have read the section and underlined, I always try to journal my thoughts. This is where you and I could differ. I process things through writing. I re-read the section and then type it into my journal. Once I have re-written it into my journal, I begin to respond to the Scriptures through writing. This has a way of helping me to break down my thoughts and really chew on the Scriptures. Many times, my writings will even turn into prayers that I write down.
To take this a step further, I have gotten to the point that I don’t even feel like I have done my devotions properly unless I have written down my thoughts. It’s a way that I feel like I have prioritized my time with God and given proper attention to his Word.
Someone once told me something that changed me forever. I was a college student. He said, “Even if you read one verse and just think about it for the rest of the day, you’re off to a better start than most. God would love to spend even just 10 minutes a day with you. Start there and then grow.”
Start there. Then grow.

I have never been one to come up with a good April Fools joke. Until today. I just updated my Facebook status to say “Dara and I just found out we are pregnant with #5!”. It blew up. Congratulations all around for us via responses to my status. I guess it’s easy to believe considering we have 4 kids and the oldest on is 5 years old 🙂
Fun joke. Now it’s over 🙂
