The members of our core team came over tonight for a wonderful surprise 30th bday party! To top it off, they all chipped in to cover the cost of getting me a much needed computer. Not just any computer, though, a MacBook Pro! I have recently been without a computer as we are working on the beginning stages of Center City Church and this met a really big need. I am so blessed to be able to be a part of something very special here in Charlotte. My friends not only met a need, I even got what I wanted!
So blessed. For those who know me, you will know how much it meant to me by this last statement:
I WAS SPEECHLESS 🙂
Now that is rare!

Dara and I are taking the next three days (Wednesday-Friday) to specifically pray over our finances and budget. Trying to be as frugal as possible as we work on planting Center City Church.
God has given us the responsibility to be good stewards of the money he brings into our church and into our family. If you pray, pray that God gives us wisdom and direction. Thanks!

We took Max to his new elementary school to meet with his kindergarten teacher one on one for the first time. Dara and I waited in the hall while the teacher talked with Max about his new class, asked him to spell his name, his address, colors, etc.
Dara looked at me about ten minutes after we dropped him off and said, “Why am I so nervous right now?” I felt the same way. It is so strange to be letting him go into this new stage of life.
I’m so proud of my little guy. He is so excited to learn and meet new friends. We are learning a lot about letting go and trusting that God will watch over Max after we have had him in our care all day, every day for over five years.
His teacher came back out and had a lot of nice things to say about Max and how happy she was to have him in her class.
First full day of school is Friday. Here we go!

It’s never gotten quite this difficult* before.
We have been living solely on God’s provision and the generosity of so many across the country for so long. We start each month with $0 in our fundraising account* and God has provided every step of the way. Yet each month I feel tempted to try to take this back into my own hands through worry, fear, doubt, etc.
I have spent time this week preparing applications for four different grants equaling a potential $52,000. Our goal is to completely raise our salary for the next year* (again) so that Center City Church is on a solid financial foundation for the future.
REALITY CHECK: We only have $500 in our fundraising account right now* for our next paycheck that is due in 10 days*. Although we are working very hard on raising our funds, we find ourselves in the middle of sending out new fundraising materials and actually getting money back in to our account. The challenge has never seemed so big* as it does right now.
I gave this burden to God today, yet even as I type this I feel the need to give it to him again. I have learned that when I have done all I can in my power, God makes up the difference*.
*When all the odds are stacked against us, it is important to remember God’s promise: Luke 1:37 – For nothing is impossible with God.

I am headed to Greensboro, NC this morning to meet with Jim Kelly regarding Center City Church. Jim is a valued voice in my life that has a wealth of wisdom and experience in the field of church planting. So grateful for the wisdom of wise counsel today. Looking forward to enjoying a latte and conversation!
