I am so grateful for the season that we are in right now at Center City Church. I am humbled by the opportunity to be a part of this amazing group of people. We met tonight in a living room in Uptown Charlotte and talked about Christ’s example of humility.
The initial group that God has brought together at Center City is amazing. What God is doing in our hearts is incredible. We have no venue. We do no advertising. But every week we continue to meet new people that come in to take a look and see what’s happening in our group. It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. I find myself coming back to this Scripture as a reminder of where all goodness and all blessings come:
Romans 15:17-18 – So I have reason to be enthusiastic about all Christ Jesus has done through me in my service to God. 18 Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me…
So grateful for the Word of God that keeps us grounded. I am so excited about what God is doing at Center City, but all roads lead back to one source: Jesus Christ.

I love what I do, but my favorite part of every day is coming home to my wife and kids. Every time I come home after being gone for the day, all four Docusen kids come running to the door screaming “DAAADDDYYY”!!!! I am so grateful for an amazing wife and my beautiful children.
I love coming home!

I am so grateful for the season of life we are in right now at Center City Church. What an honor to pastor such an amazing group of people. God has brought together a really eclectic blend of people that bring different gifts, talents, personalities, family and spiritual backgrounds, etc. Because of this, we have chosen to intentionally take time to drill down to the core of who we are at Center City.
Christ is at the center of all that we are and all we will become. Because of this, we have chosen to focus all of our teachings on Christ during the beginning days of Center City. When Christ is the central part of our lives, all other streams flow from the same source. All creativity, compassion, generosity, community, etc. flow from our relationship with Christ. We are drilling down to the center of our lives and then we will grow from there.
With Christ as our foundation, our roots will be planted in an unshakable foundation that will be lasting and effective.
**Ephesians 3:17 – Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

Max and I went to the World of Outlaws World Finals last night. All night with my big boy. We have been to a couple of races together since moving to Charlotte, but this was our first trip to the Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. SO MUCH FUN!
It was so incredibly cold, though. I mean COLD. So cold that I took my sweater off and put it on Max. He’s five. And adorable in dad’s sweater. About halfway through the evening, I looked down and realized he wasn’t wearing a sock on his right foot. He said he didn’t put one on because he “didn’t need it.” So I took my sock off and gave it to him. And my left foot was numb the rest of the evening.
The highlight of the evening came when he was sitting on my lap and we were taking in some serious racing (and serious crashes). He looked up at me and said, “Daddy, this is my favorite day ever.”
I love making memories with my Max! Fun night. A special thanks to Ray Bonis for hooking us up with the tickets!

Picture a two story coffeehouse on the corner of the main strip of Uptown Charlotte. The street level entrance is a first class coffeehouse. Great vibe. Free wifi. Comfortable. Baristas are friendly, well-trained and knowledgeable about the products they serve.
Upstairs is a multi-use venue that can seat 200+ people. It is used for study groups, community gatherings, business meetings, after school programs, hosting parties, catering events, Center City Church meetings, music lessons, dance lessons, art galleries and so much more.
I haven’t even mentioned yet that the profits of this coffeehouse will go back into our community and overseas missions. Imagine the opportunities to serve our community and our world by investing into parks, playgrounds, community needs, clean water projects in Africa, setting up schools in the jungles of South America, etc. It is absolutely beautiful.
God put this dream in Dara’s heart many years ago. We’ve been actively working together on this behind the scenes for the last 2+ years. We’ve held this so close to our hearts that I’ve ever mentioned it publicly until now. Praying. Working. Researching. Connecting with people that have gone before us. It’s going to take a lot more prayer and a great number of people responding to God’s direction for this to become a reality. But it’s worth the work. It’s worth the prayers. It’s worth the wait.
A coffeehouse/venue in Uptown Charlotte. It’s going to be amazing. Pray with us. Believe with us. God will get all the glory.
