The story of Joshua is amazing. God raised him up as an amazing leader among the people of Israel. Time after time, God spoke and Joshua followed. It didn’t matter how crazy the command seemed, Joshua simply listened. By Joshua 10, there are several stories of God speaking to Joshua and working miracles through his leadership. It all leads up to this point where the king of Jerusalem (King Adoni-zedek…unfortunate name) rallies support to destroy an ally of Israel – the Gibeonites.

After a long day of killing the armies that were attacking them, Joshua flips the script here and asks God a crazy request:

Verse 12b – “Let the sun stand still over Gibeon and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.”

Translation: let the sun stay out long enough for us to finish destroying our enemy.

Joshua asked God to make the sun stand still. JOSHUA ASKED GOD TO MAKE THE SUN STAND STILL! This is awesome. Even more awesome…God granted this request!

Verse 13: So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies.

It goes on to say that this never happened before and hadn’t happened since. “Surely the Lord fought for Israel today.” (vs. 14)

I believe in the power of God. I believe miracles happen when the heat gets turned up in our lives. I believe that if God has the power to literally make the sun stand in its place that he’s got enough power to do any miracle in my life and in the lives of those who ask.

Lord, help us to have faith like Joshua had that day. Help us to make crazy requests of you because we simply believe.
