Lean Down and Listen

Daniel chapter nine has been an incredible read for me the past two days. Daniel serves as an amazing example of a man of God that desperately prays for his city. He lays his heart out before God. He begs God for undeserved mercy. I love verses 18-19:

O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how your city – the city that bears your name – lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy. O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act!

I have had a picture in my head recently that matches this passage. When I pray, I feel like God leans in and listens to my prayers. I love the imagery of an amazing God that takes genuine interest in his people when they pray. I love the fact that it is not just imagery. It is reality. He really loves to hear us talk.

This chapter is a great model for anyone that might be interested in praying over their city. Daniel LOVED Jerusalem. He saw Jerusalem’s potential. He brought his requests before God. God listened.

Don’t be afraid to pray huge prayers for your city. For your family. For your current circumstance. The beauty of it all is that we serve a God that will lean down and listen.

Hang Out Days

Every night before we go to bed Max asks the same question: “Daddy, what’s tomorrow? Is it a work day or a hang out day?” It’s so cute. Hang out days consist of basically anything the kids want to do. It’s my day off that I devote completely to the family.

I love hang out days 🙂

The Things Moms Say

I came home from Caribou last night after a closing shift and chatted with my mom for a while. She came to give me a hug after our conversation and I put my arm out and said, “Oh, Mom, you don’t want to do that. I smell like Caribou (long shift).”

She instantly replied, “It’s ok, I love coffee.”

Unconditional love on display 🙂

Preparing For The Blizzard of ’09

Weather forecasters have called for snow tonight in Charlotte. It’s the first snow of the year. I am cracking up, though, because people are calling for schools and businesses to be shut down. Grocery stores are loaded with people stocking up on milk and bread. All of this because they are forecasting 2-4 inches of snow.

Now, I may be a Floridian, but somewhere in me is a trace of Michigan blood. I was just up there last week and there were several FEET of snow on the ground.

I’m not quite so sure what all the ballyhoo is all about.
