It’s so easy to read the Bible and turn it into nothing more than a pleasurable read. Even fiction can be inspiring. But there is nothing fictitious about the Bible. This stuff really happened. The Bible is more than inspiring. It’s empowering.

I am reading the story in Joshua 6 today. God commanded the Israelites to take the city of Jericho. It was a military mismatch. No reason they should have been able to do this. Jericho was completely fortified with huge walls around the town. And the Israelites were just coming off of a forty year trek across the desert.

God’s command was for them to march around the town of Jericho once a day for six days. No fighting. Just praying. On the seventh day, they marched around the city walls seven times. On the seventh time they shouted with all their might.

As they listened to the Lord’s command to do this, God powerfully came through. The walls came down. They achieved a miraculous military victory because God was fighting for them.

God did this for the Israelites. And my encouragement today is that I serve an unchanging God. He’s just as powerful today as he was on the day that he tore down the walls of Jericho in a display of his power.

Don’t underestimate God. This stuff really happened.
