In October, 2007, God placed a dream in the hearts of Dara and I. It was birthed out of a simple idea: we never wanted to build a traditional church building. We prayed that God would give us ideas to let our property be a place that could be for the community, used by the community seven days a week. It really was a simple beginning: let’s build something our community would want to use.
This dream became more clear as we began to dream of opening a first-class coffeehouse in the heart of our city. It turned out that city was Uptown Charlotte. This coffeehouse would have a multiple-use venue large enough to host our church. But it’s main use would be for the community. Coffee. Performance space. It’s so beautiful in my mind.
Fast forward 3 years. We have built relationships with so many men and women around the country that believe in this dream. And the past three weeks have been nothing short of miraculous. I have had close to a dozen meetings with businessmen in our community that have caught the vision of bringing this coffeehouse/venue to Uptown Charlotte.
We are currently looking at a specific property that has blown my mind. The vision is so much bigger now than it was even a month ago. I am so grateful for those that have come around us to play their part in seeing this dream become a reality.
I have learned that God wants to see his dreams come to pass even more than we do. And he will faithfully continue to lead us as long as we stay committed to Him. Stay close to him. Listen for his voice. Enjoy relationship with him.
God put a huge dream in our heart 3 years ago. And the reality of this dream may be even bigger than we could have imagined. Thanks for your prayers for wisdom and favor. There are some big meetings this week that will further define where we are at in this process. I’ll keep you posted.
**Ephesians 3:20-21 – Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
