I just completed my first job application since my freshman year in college. Amazing.

When we decided to come to Charlotte, it was with no guaranteed salary. We have been blessed to be able to work for 5+ months on planting this church because of the support of so many across the country. In light of the recent economic downturn nationwide, however, our fundraising has drastically slowed down. I have decided to offset the difference that we need in our income by applying for employment outside of full time ministry for the first time in 10+ years. I was thinking of the ramifications of this decision today and I invented a new word.

Uni-bi-vocational.

My entire life is committed to bringing the amazing message of Christ and his love to as many people that I can. I have been blessed for 10+ years to do this and get a full time salary from the church. The majority of church planters all across the world are referred to as “bi-vocational” because they work at the church and have an outside job to pay the bills.

I can’t fit into this box, so I decided to make up my own word to refer to my new endeavor. Uni-bi-vocational. I may have two jobs, but both will be with the same purpose and intent. Just because I will receive a paycheck from a company outside of the church doesn’t mean that I can’t bring the amazing message of Christ and his love to as many people that I can. I am looking forward to my new job, wherever that may be. I am looking forward to meeting the people that God will bring into my life. This is an exciting opportunity for me to serve God in a new way.

One JOB.
Two jobs.
Uni-bi-vocational.
